Current Music: Lycia - "Excade Decade Decada"
My trip to Tulsa was... okay. Both the men's and women's basketball teams made it to the semi-finals, but lost there. Tulsa is a pretty empty place, but we had fun, mostly shopping.
My car just died on Thursday, and I need to find another car. I have a very limited budget, and it looks like my dad is ONLY going to agree to a car if his mechanic says OK. That's such BS, because he's a cheapskate and would prefer a Toyota (the car I was looking at is a Nissan). There is NO way to find a used car that is 10 or more years old, with LOW mileage, for under $1500. There IS NO WAY. But, that's what he thinks those cars are worth. The mechanic knows of this Corolla that MIGHT be available at the end of the month, that MIGHT sell for $1300. It's a 1989 Corolla, and has over 100,000 miles on it. The mechanic CANNOT guarantee that the car will last at least three years. MY car was a 1988 Corolla, and it died only because of the automatic transmission. The engine still runs strong. It's just not worth putting in another transmission into a car that has close to 180,000 miles on it, plus anyone who does auto transmission is going to charge big bucks to do it.
I borrowed $1000 from my mom, and $800 from my dad, to go looking for a car. My friends all say that having the cash upfront will help make the price lower for the car. Say, if they are asking for $2000, show them you have $1300 in cash RIGHT NOW, they usually will fold and give it to you for that amount. I'm hoping that the Nissan Sentra that I was looking at will work the same way. They're asking for $2500, but if I show them $1800, maybe they'll sell. If not, I'm willing to go as far as $2000. I think it's in pretty good condition, and so does my friend. My dad still wants his mechanic to look at it, which is going to happen tomorrow. The guy selling the car will be dropping by the auto shop to have the mechanic take a look at it. I really wish I could just drop the money in front of the guy and take the car already. It's so hard getting around without your own car, especially when you've had one for so long. AND... my dad is a maniac driver, and he's my ride around for the week.
I have decided on taking school slowly. True, I could finish school next semester, if I took both sessions of summer school AND crammed a whole bunch of courses in the Fall, but you know what? I will end up failing. I will end up dropping more classes and having to take the next Spring, anyway. So, I am planning to just work during the summer, take one or two major courses during the Fall, one or two during the Spring, and one or two during Fall 2004. I'll most likely be done by then. If not, Spring 2005. I am stuck on this rock for at least three years to pay off the loan anyway, so why rush to get out? I don't pay for tuition, I get that through band, so why not take advantage of that?
That's just my thoughts. It'll probably be the path I take.
