Current music: LIVE - "Run to the Water" So I haven't written in a while.... it's time to update.
I've been working as much as I can the past couple of weeks. I don't ever feel like writing a lengthy entry before or after work, so I've been neglecting this diary. I do have a LiveJournal where I sometimes do some quick updates, so if you actually keep up with my life, go there. It's under Xeyli as well.
Anyway, this is basically how my week goes. Monday, daytime, I'm off. I work the pizza delivery at night, and so far it's been varying for me. I'm scheduled from 6-8pm, which basically means I'm there for the busy dinnertime, and that's it. The second Monday I had this shift, they asked me to stay for closing, and I agreed to, even though I was, and still AM, pretty new to the store. I wasn't sure how to do anything, but the main thing I had to do was wash dishes and help put them away. I didn't wash dishes fast enough for their liking, so the closing cook washed, while I put away. I left there at 11:30pm. Tonight, Monday, I got to leave at 9pm and didn't have to close. Whew. Tuesday, I work a swing shift at the bookstore. That's basically it. Wednesday, I work a closing shift at the bookstore, so I'm free during the morning and early afternoon. Thursday, I work another swing shift at the bookstore, though I am really trying to get an opening shift, because I know that the pizza shop needs another delivery driver on Thursday nights. Friday, daytime, is all mine. Friday night, from 5:30, I work pizza delivery. That shift usually does go over my scheduled hours, but it's not so bad. This past Friday, however, was really bad. I will write about that next paragraph. Saturday, I work pizza delivery in the morning, and work the bookstore at night. The bookstore closes at midnight on the weekend, so Saturdays are my suicide days. Sunday, I work an early swing shift at the bookstore. Even though I have an early swing shift on Sunday, I tend to go to the bar after work on Saturday, because I really, really want to relax and have a drink and talk with some friends.
Back to this past Friday. The morning started off pretty easily. My mom and I decided to spend the day (window-)shopping, and invited my aunt and grandmother to go along. We had lunch at a Korean barbecue plate place, did some shopping at Wally World, and went home. Later, I went to the bank to deposit my first paycheck from the pizza place (my orientation day paycheck, which was for five hours, and came out to about $15 after taxes) and some extra cash I had on me (from tips over the weekend). After that, I head over to the pizza place and clock in early, since it was really busy. I was given two deliveries to take care of, and headed out to the first place. I get there, take the pizza to the customer and collect the money they owe for the pizza. I get back to my car, and I hear this strange sound from my car.... the sound of water pouring out. I look down on the ground under my car, and I see a whole lot of antifreeze leaking out of my car. It was bubbling out of my car. Great. I grab my cell phone and call my dad, and tell him what's going on with my car. He says to try and get back to the pizza place and call him back when I get there. I get into my car and debate in my head whether to even go to the second delivery, or just go straight back to the store. I decide to go on that delivery, since it's a place very near the pizza place, so I turned the air heater on, and hoped that it would keep my engine cool enough to get through the one delivery and back to the store. I made it, but immediately told the manager that my car was leaking antifreeze, and to hold off sending me on more deliveries until I could figure out what's going on with my car. I get back to my car, pop the hood, and take a look around. I look inside the place where the antifreeze is stored, and it's half empty and steaming inside. Woohoo, fun times. I grab some paper towels and start to twist open the cap to the radiator.... steam immediately started coming out, pretty damned forcefully, too. I stop and don't continue with opening the cap. I close the hood and call my dad again. He said to get his station wagon from my aunt (he was letting her borrow it for the week), and use that for work. He would figure out how to check on the car later. So, my aunt comes to the store and the manager throws three deliveries at me as soon as I said I have a car again. I make the three deliveries, and then drop my aunt off before heading back. The night was going okay for a while. Then, on my last delivery, I didn't realize that it was a credit card payment, because the slip didn't have the usual markings of a credit card slip. I didn't bring the necessary items for a credit card payment, so I had to go back to the store, back to the customer's house, and back to the store. Ugh. THEN... they kept me there to help clean up and prep everything for the next day. I was scheduled for 5:30-8:30, and I worked 5:15-12:15.
And I seem to never have time to get my free food. The only chance I get to breathe is usually at the very end of the night, when they start shutting down everything.
Tonight was good and short. I ended up having two deliveries that ended up being free. One of them was an order transfered from another store, and it took so long for everything to finish, and by the time I got to the house, they had already complained and gotten it free. I also had the wrong address, so that caused it to be even later. The second one, maybe it was my fault for being late, but they got it for free as well. That means those two people didn't even tip. I got enough from tips to pay for my cereal and medicine I bought tonight, heh.
Medicine is right. I have been for the past week, and this cough just doesn't want to go away. I got prescription cough syrup, because the OTC one wasn't doing a thing for me. I was planning to NOT use the antibiotics, because I have this fear of using antibiotics too much, and then germs adapting to it to the point where it won't work anymore. But... Mon-key insisted I take it, so I guess I should.
I've been stressing over my jobs and financial aid and my budget. I'm constantly trying to figure out how much I can afford for an apartment, how much I need for food and to try and make life a little bit comfortable. I want to have at least SOME free time to spend with friends and with my guy, but it's going to be tough. The Grand Master Plan is to share an apartment with Mon-key, but because of school, he will end up having to pay more of the rent than me. Maybe, or maybe not. Depending on how much I can make over the summer.
I'm trying real hard to save the tips I make from delivering. It's not easy when it is money in your hand. It's easy to save the paycheck money, since you have to go to the bank (or somewhere that will cash it for you) in order to get the money. I've been pretty good at not spending too much money. I guess it could also be due to the fact that I don't really have much time to do much of anything.
I still want the café supervisor position at the bookstore. It's probably one of the most stressful supervisor jobs in the store, but I want it. I want to work at making it a better place. The current café supervisor is planning on moving to San Fransisco with some friends, so the position may open up. Or, they might do something stupid again and toss someone else into the position, and open the other position for applications. The management either can't see that I would make a good supervisor, or they DO see it, but don't like me or don't think I would be good for the job. Who else IS there?? Getting that job would give me a raise, and I may not have to deliver pizza anymore. Oh well. We shall see where that goes.
I guess I'll attempt to sleep now. Maybe I'll succeed.
