Current Music: The Flaming Lips - "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part I" Okay, I haven't updated this in a while, so I'm going to do so now. I did write a few little updates in my Livejournal, so if you want to check that out, go here.
I've finally moved my computer into the apartment, so I am currently sitting in a very uncomfortable step stool, because I haven't gotten a chair yet. I was supposed to grab a chair from my brother's house next door, but I forgot about that. I think I'll grab it on Sunday. MAN, this stool is really uncomfortable.... even though I AM overweight, my butt isn't all that big, so there isn't much cushioning on it. There is a small seat cushion under me, but it's not doing much.
Since I am writing this entry, you might be able to figure out that I have the DSL all hooked up and working. Yay! It wasn't hard to set up at all. The one problem at the moment with the whole computer thing.... the actual place I want to set up the computer is in the corner, under the windows. I haven't had a chance (or asked someone) to put up the curtain rods yet, which also means I have no curtains up yet. I'm going to try and ask my brother to put up the curtain rods sometime soon, since AlwaysLolita said she's been working on the curtains (thank you, again). So, slowly this apartment is becoming more settled-in looking. I still haven't slept on the bed... I've been using the futon couch because I feel the Cal-king bed is way too big for me by myself. I already feel kinda lonely in this apartment, so I don't need to be sleeping in an incredibly large, empty bed. I've been trying to make more food here, rather than the usual go-out-and-buy-meals for work and school. So far, I've been pretty good about cooking stirfry and curry. I have a carton of eggs, flour tortillas and cheese.... I could make breakfast burritos. I don't have salsa, which I keep wondering why the hell don't I have it here. I keep forgetting to bring it with me from home.
I need to get a bigger surge protector, one with the outlets facing outward. I have too many of those really large plugs, and they always end up blocking two or three outlets in the process of being plugged in (Sorry about the sentence ending with a preposition). The thing about surge protectors, along with most things in this world, you have to pay a lot more for better ones. The kind of surge protector I want costs over $20! It'd better have a great warranty on it, to pay for anything it destroys in case of an explosion of some sort.
Oh yeah, the first time I tried cooking on the stove here at the apartment, I found out that the largest coil doesn't work. One of the repairmen for the building came in to check it out. We found out that the large coil works only on simmer. Anything higher and it doesn't work at all. They'll be sending an electrician next week to check out the wires and buttons on this thing. It's really old, and it may not have the proper parts for fixing, so I might end up getting a new stove from them. Woohoo, that'd be real nice. I doubt it, though. I can't be that lucky.
(Side note: I've been taking breaks in between paragraphs in order to give my butt a break)
I have been having some problems with my feet recently. Both my feet, due to the genetics on my mom's side (thanks mom...), the first joint in the big toe sticks out to the side. That makes it prone to getting bunions. It's been hurting, so I thought of getting wider shoes. I ended up buying a pair of Birkenstock clogs. Someone recommended Birks, so I thought I'd check them out. I have them right here, but I keep wondering if I should return them. They cost a LOT of money (I paid $100 for them), and I'm not sure if it's worth it. A lot of people I talked with say they love Birks and they are the most comfortable things ever. Are they worth $100? Tell me what you think.... I could really use more insight.
This weekend is Teacher's Appreciation Weekend at work. Tomorrow, from 11-4, there is some kind of special reception for the teachers, where our café will be providing free samples of brownies, lemon bars, muffins, chocolate, and even sandwiches. I'm going to end up going to work early in order to set up some extra tables of gift items for purchase. Teachers this weekend get 25% off anything in the store (well, except newspapers and periodicals and electronics), which include edible gift boxed items. Food directly from our café is discounted at 40% off. Crazy. It's going to be insane. I hope we don't run out of chocolate... the place we order chocolates has been out of Lindor Balls, or they just haven't been sending us any. I'll be dead by the end of the week, for sure.
This past weekend I was in Kona (on the Big Island) for a gagaku performance. I have some pictures from my trip, which I will post here.

Here's a picture of an old, eroded lava flow along the shore.
The performance went pretty well, more people than I had expected showed up. Here on O'ahu, we don't get many people at our performances, unless it's for the Japan Consul General or at the University for Pau Hana Concert (the ethnomusicology department joint concert for all the ethno-classes).
Damn... time flies when your butt hurts on a small stepstool.... gotta get to class.
